Jordan Spieth turned in an impressive performance at the Phoenix Open over the weekend despite heading into the tournament with a degree of pessimism after being out for some time with injury
Jordan Spieth proved himself wrong with a strong showing at the Phoenix Open after the American initially declared “my expectations are low”.
While Spieth didn’t clinch the title, he did finish in T4 after a solid weekend that won many admirers. His performance was even more commendable considering the 31-year-old is on the comeback trail after being ruled out for over five months following wrist surgery.
After the first round in Phoenix, the PGA Tour star forecasted a substandard weekend for himself. “This is a really good test these few weeks, and my expectations are low,” Spieth had said.
“Having said that, I know where I was today, and I know that I can do better than I did today. If I can try to post a few scores at or better than today, then you never know, I start getting back in the mix and it becomes pretty fun and hopefully more consistent.”
It helped that the three-time major winner was on hand to remind spectators of his golden days, particularly with an extraordinary shot on the 17th, which left him a mere 10 feet short for birdie. Fellow pro Billy Horschel was blown away, taking to X to share his approval.
