Matildas captain Sam Kerr has announced that she and her partner Kristie Mewis are expecting a baby.
Kerr, 31, posted a collage of black and white photos on Instagram, in one holding up an ultrasound scan, and in another pointing to Mewis’s stomach.
“Mewis-Kerr baby coming 2025!” the post said.
The reveal sparked an outpouring of celebrations from friends and fans.
The Matildas’ official Instagram page and fellow player Mary Fowler both posted: “Congrats!”
Kerr proposed to her long-term girlfriend, American professional soccer player Mewis, in 2023.
The two went public with their relationship in 2021 after the Tokyo Olympics.
Rumours about the pair’s relationship emerged after their teams played against each other in the bronze medal match in the women’s semifinals.
After the US won 4-3 against Australia, Mewis sat down to hug and console Kerr.
Both of them represented their countries at the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
In June this year, Kerr re-signed with Chelsea until 2026. She has played with the club since 2019, scoring 99 goals in 128 matches.
Mewis, 33, plays for West Ham United.
