Jordan Spieth has always been lauded by fans as one of the more personable and friendly players on the PGA Tour. He isn’t afraid to put his emotions on display, and he never misses an autograph after his rounds.
On Saturday at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, however, Spieth took his man-of-the-people status to a whole new level with a fan interaction that quickly took off on the internet, thanks to Sirius XM PGA Tour Radio Host Jason Sobel.
Spieth, who posted a 2-under 68 at TPC Southwind during the third round of the playoff event, was apparently walking off the 16th tee when a spectator asked him a simple question.
“Having a little snack?” the fan asked, according to Sobel.
Spieth was walking with a sandwich in his hand. The three-time major champion promptly responded with some unexpected but hilarious generosity.
“Want half? It’s peanut butter and banana,” he said.
It’s safe to assume this lucky fan was pleased—and hopefully a little bit less hungry—after his incredible interaction with Spieth.
Spieth went on to par the hole en route to his 68, which got him to 11 under for the tournament, tied for fourth with Max Homa. He sits three strokes behind the solo leader, Lucas Glover.
