Jordan Spieth has issued a warning to his PGA Tour rivals, stating that he’ll be back in action and ready to compete at the start of 2025 after recovering from a wrist issue.
Spieth’s performance in 2025 was not up to his usual standard, with his season prematurely ending at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, leaving him 67th in the FedEx Cup standings. His form was largely impacted by a persistent wrist problem.
Speaking to reporters at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Spieth revealed the severity of his injury: “I’ve got to have it operated on ASAP, and then I’ll go through the process of what I’m supposed to do from there.”
However, nearly a month later, Spieth seems optimistic about his recovery following a consultation with a surgeon. He told CBS: “Anytime a guy who does, you know, 30,000 to 40,000 surgeries is excited about something, you know, that’s reason for me to feel good about it, I guess,” adding, “In due time, it should be better than it was before.”
Spieth himself acknowledges that his recent form hasn’t matched the high standards he set in the mid-to-late 2010s when he was one of the world’s top golfers. His wrist issue first became apparent during the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills.
The 31-year-old confessed that he’s been battling with a wrist issue since as far back as 2017, the year of his last major victory at The Open Championship. He revealed: “I didn’t get it fixed maybe then, and I kind of got into some bad habits. I started to swing it better a few years ago it started to kind of act up again.

“And then ultimately I had an incident last May, a little over a year ago when I was with my son in the pool and I was just kind of getting out and something popped and I couldn’t move it. I had to withdraw from the Byron the next week.
“And it’s kind of been something this year where that kind of dislocation has happened, you know, 20-some-odd times since February [of 2024] and it started to happen more and more. So it was something that couldn’t fix itself with rest, unfortunately.
“So that’s why I ended up having to do this. So the answer, I mean, it’s been a while in general, so hopefully, this cleans everything up from that original incident.” Currently, Spieth is ranked 44th in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), having finished 2023 as the world’s 15th best golfer.
