PGA Tour superstar and multiple major champion Jordan Spieth has confirmed he has had surgery on his wrist after an indifferent season.
Jordan Spieth admitted he lacks patience after he had surgery on his wrist.
Spieth announced on X on Saturday he went under the knife to repair a longstanding problem with his left wrist.
The PGA Tour star has had an indifferent season by his lofty standards.
He has missed seven cuts, one of which came at The Masters, and has rarely been in contention.
Spieth told the Associated Press that the procedure happened on 21 August and it lasted an hour.
He said: “I had a procedure on my left wrist last week, as I had mentioned was the plan.
“The operation went smoothly and I’m grateful for the exceptional medical team and support of [wife] Annie and my family.
“[I am] focused on rest and rehab, and I look forward to returning to golf healthy and prepared for 2025!”
In truth, Spieth has struggled with the injury since last May.
He damaged the tendon a week before the PGA Championship and aggravated the injury a few weeks later whilst making his son Sammy breakfast.
He has had to have that sheath rebuilt so the tendon doesn’t dislocate.
Spieth added: “I feel relief in making the decision and confident that this will solve the problems I was having.
“It’s always one of those where we won’t know until a few months in, as we get strength back, how quickly it will feel normal
“My personality is a little tricky with how long this surgery takes to get back to the full go of things.
“It’s called patience, or lack of it with me.”
Spieth is hopeful to return to action at Tiger Woods’ Hero World Challenge in December.
He will miss the forthcoming Presidents Cup.
Spieth played a starring role at the 2022 Presidents Cup, going 5-0-0 across the week.
Elsewhere, Team USA captain Jim Furyk has dropped a hint the aforementioned Woods may have a role to play in the forthcoming contest.
