The Ryder Cup didn’t seem to mind, though. “Welcome Sophie — so happy to have you on the US team!!” the sporting organization cheered in the comments section of Spieth’s baby announcement.
Sophie is the couple’s second baby. The pair — who tied the knot in 2018 — welcomed son Sammy in November 2021. At the time, Spieth shared a sweet photo of Sammy’s tiny hand clutching his own.
“Sammy Spieth born 11/14,” he declared in the post’s caption. “Mama and baby doing great! Feeling blessed!”
Sammy, who will turn 2 in November, adorably stole the show when he accompanied his dad and mom to this year’s Masters Par-3 Contest at Augusta National in Georgia. In one photo shared on the PGA Tour’s official X account, the father-son duo could be seen “testing out the rough in Augusta.”
The little boy was dressed for the occasion in a green baseball cap, a classic white caddie outfit pinned with his dad’s name and a tiny pair of white sneakers. Other photos from the event captured Sammy hanging out in the bunkers and even hitting a few putts.
Spieth shared photos from the day on Instagram at the time, writing, “Rain cut Sammy’s caddie debut short but he looked the part!”
It seems Spieth’s son also mingles with golf’s biggest stars. In January, Tom Kim told Sports Illustrated that he babysat Sammy over the holidays. The South Korean player said that he flew back to Dallas with Spieth after attending Tiger Woods’ Hero World Challenge event in the Bahamas.
Spieth, not wanting his friend to have to spend Christmas alone in Dallas, invited Kim to spend the holiday with his family — and that included doing a little babysitting.

“I was kind of by myself,” Kim told SI. “So I got to spend some time with the Spieths and kind of babysit Sammy, which was really cool. But, yeah, it’s been amazing to kind of build a friendship and it was really cool to play with him today.”
Kim raved about Sammy, telling the outlet, “Oh, my God, Sammy’s amazing. He’s the most wonderful little boy I think I’ve ever met. He’s just absolutely amazing. So definitely I’ve seen a lot of kids, but he’s, he definitely makes it a lot easier.”
In July, Spieth and his family celebrated a big milestone together: the athlete’s 30th birthday. Spieth posted a photo on Instagram showing him and Annie posing with Sammy in front of their home, surrounded by an array of colorful balloons.
