THREE-time major winner Jordan Spieth says he’s excited at the prospect of a future Open Championship at Portmarnock links.
The Texan was speaking after a recent golf trip to Ireland with fellow PGA Tour star Justin Thomas and their pals.
Portmarnock Golf Club is being looked at as a potential venue for The Open
Ireland’s government have scheduled discussions with the R&A and Portmarnock Golf Club during the summer to hold talks about hosting a future Open Championship major at the venue.
Subject to those talks and a positive economic impact assessment, the government expect a recommendation in the autumn.
The North Dublin links course previously hosted the 2019 Amateur Open, the same year as Shane Lowry won the Open Championship in Northern Ireland at Portrush Links.
But the prospect of an Open in the Republic of Ireland has many licking their chops, including Jordan Spieth.
