Lexi Thompson Makes Feelings Clear as Ex-LPGA Pro Returns from Retirement to Lead Nelly Korda & Co

“I’d love to be still a part of it in any way just because I know how special it’s meant to me and how many memories and relationships and friendships I’ve made throughout the Solheim Cup. So I’d love to be a part of it”, said Lexi Thompson at the 2024 Solheim Cup, expressing her desire to join the 2026 Solheim Cup team in some capacity.

Thompson acknowledged that if she wants to be involved, she’ll have to prepare more for the role. “Kind of learning off the assistants and Stacy of course, and I know there’s a lot that goes into it. So I’ll have to make sure I’m ready for that“, she said, highlighting her willingness to put in the work to contribute to the team’s success. But now that the tournament is coming close and the latest updates are making their way, the golfer is tight-lipped on any hint of her participation.

But what is the new update? Well, the LPGA just revealed that Angela Stanford will captain the U.S. Solheim Cup Team in 2026, marking her first time at the helm. Stanford, a six-time veteran of the American squad, has previously served as an assistant captain three times. Stanford will lead the top 12 American female golfers at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands from September 11-13, 2026. She expressed her gratitude, saying, “I’m extremely grateful to be named the next American captain… I consider this the pinnacle of my career, and I’m looking forward to leading our players to the Netherlands in 2026.”

Although Thompson hasn’t hinted at any potential returns to the greens, she did show her patriotic spirit by taking to her Instagram story to congratulate the future captain, Angela Stanford, and wish Team USA good luck. “🇺🇸👏🏻 love it! Congrats @angstanford Go USA!”, Thompson wrote on her Instagram story as she reposted Solheim Cup’s Instagram post of the announcement. Stanford, who was part of the last American team that won the Solheim Cup away from home in 2015, will now lead Team USA in their quest to win the cup overseas for the first time in over a decade.
