Jordan Spieth 2025 target clear after brutal Arnold Palmer Invitational snub Story

Jordan Spieth’s disappointment at missing out on the Arnold Palmer Invitational only further highlights his determination to achieve his number one target in 2025.

The 31-year-old was denied a sponsor exemption for the PGA Tour’s Signature event over the weekend, with the four available spots instead going to Justin Rose, Rafael Campos, Mackenzie Hughes and Min Woo Lee. Spieth finished No. 67 on last year’s FedExCup standings, outside the top 50, meaning he failed to automatically qualify for this season’s Signature Events.

As a result, that rules him out of eight events unless he can claim a sponsor exemption. Despite already doing so for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and The Genesis Invitational earlier this year, Spieth has already been shown that it isn’t always guaranteed.

With his pathway into those big-money, big-point events now limited for the 2025 season, Spieth knows he has to play to his full potential in order to climb back up the standings if he wants to avoid another sticky situation in 12 months time.

Granted, the surgery he underwent to repair ulnar nerve damage in his left wrist in August hampered his progress last year, but a full recovery means there is now no excuse. Speaking in September, Spieth told Golfweek that it was his goal to be “tournament-ready” by January 1, 2025, which for him, meant “to play at my ceiling.”

Six months down the line and Spieth has already been shown how important it is that he does that. Being denied a sponsor exemption for the Arnold Palmer Invitational came as a big blow to him, and he knows he can’t afford to let the same happen again in 12 months’ time.
