Jordan Spieth excited to compete as pro at PGA National for the first time

Palm Beach County golf fans will finally get an opportunity to see three-time major champion Jordan Spieth right in their own backyard. Speith is preparing to take on PGA National for the first time since he was a junior. He was a last minute commitment after failing to make the cut at the Genesis Open a couple of weeks ago, still dealing with wrist problems following surgery.

Last year‘s injury plagued season has him out of the top 50, 67th in the world, having not qualified for next week’s Arnold Palmer invitational. He’s hoping to still qualify for the lucrative tournament with a strong performance here this week. Spieth spent a lot of time on the driving range on Tuesday, trying to work his way back to the player he was post surgery, all while being so excited to play this tournament for the first time.

“Other than certain major championship venues,” reflects Spieth. “I can’t remember the last time I played an event that I hadn’t played before. I think it’ll be fun,” continued Spieth. “After you watch this tournament enough on TV, especially the closing five or six holes, you’ve got a pretty good idea of what to do, which is just hit the center of the greens and try to birdie the last.”
