Jordan Spieth is back in the conversation in the golfing world after coming back to form at the WM Open before appearing to be injured again at The Genesis Invitational.
The American struggled at the back end of 2024 and has undergone wrist surgery to correct his issues.
However, Spieth admitted he was feeling his wrist again after The Genesis and it looked like we wouldn’t be seeing him until the Arnold Palmer in a few weeks.
But in a shock move, Spieth has confirmed for the Cognizant Classic this week as he looks to get into form ahead of a big run of tournaments.
And according to golf analyst Rex Hoggard, seeing Spieth confirm for the Cognizant is actually a welcome shock.
Speaking on the latest episode of the Rex and Lav podcast for the Golf Channel, Hoggard admitted that after speaking with Spieth at The Genesis, it was a bit of a shock to see him confirm for the Cognizant Classic.
“I am. I had spoken with him after he missed the cut at Torrey Pines and the Genesis Invitational and there had been some discomfort with the wrist,” Hoggard said.
“He told me that had he continued to have the pain he had on Thursday afternoon that he probably wouldn’t have been able to finish, the rough was wet, it was a bad combination and he ended up making some bad swings.
“I think it is encouraging that he was able to add an event back as clearly he went home to Dallas, took a couple of days to rest it and didn’t feel like it was an issue at all. And let’s be honest PGA National is not an easy track to come back to. It’s not he is going to come back and show up and know that he can hit it all over the lot. The rough is thick, the winds blow a lot, there is a lot of water. So I think this is an encouraging sign.”
