WTA EASTBOURNE 2023, CAMILA GIORGI STOPS IN THE SEMIFINALS: KASATKINA WINS IN TWO SETS

Camila Giorgi fails to reach the second grass final of her career. The tennis player from the Marche region was defeated in the Eastbourne semifinal by Russian Daria Kasatkina with a score of 6-2 7-5 after just under an hour and a half of play. In the final, the world number eleven will face American Madison Keys, who defeated Cori Gauff 6-3 6-3 in the US derby. A match conditioned by Giorgi’s many problems with her serve. The Italian lost her service game seven times and above all she was unable to save a break point. Her performance with her second serve was disastrous (just 19% of points won) with ten double faults under her belt.
Giorgi immediately loses her serve at the start, but then gets an immediate counterbreak. The Italian, however, as mentioned, struggles terribly to hold her serve and is broken in the third and fifth game , with Kasatkina running away at 4-1. The Russian does not give the Italian any opportunities and closes at 6-2. The script seems to repeat itself perfectly in the second set. Break by Kasatkina, counterbreak by Giorgi, then two more breaks by the Russian, who takes the lead at 4-1. Giorgi, however, this time has the strength to get back into the match, recovers the two breaks of disadvantage and ties the scores at 5-5 . Unfortunately, the service betrays the world number 67 once again, with Kasatkina getting another break and then goes on to close at 7-5 on the first match point.
