Last weekend’s Grant Thornton Invitational saw PGA Tour stars team up with their LPGA Tour counterparts at Tiburón Golf Club in Naples, Florida.
Jake Knapp and Patty Tavatanakit ran out victorious after teaming up for the first time. Elsewhere, Jeeno Thitikul played alongside Tom Kim, and Nelly Korda joined forces with Daniel Berger after Tony Finau’s last-minute withdrawal.
The Grant Thornton certainly provides a unique viewing experience for fans and demonstrates the key differences between the men’s and women’s games.
Lexi Thompson and Rickie Fowler also reunited after playing the 2023 event together. Unfortunately, the duo were well off-the-pace in Naples, and Fowler delivered an honest appraisal of his and Thompson’s games during the latest Smylie Show.
“It was fun. It’s a grind, though, especially when you get out there in an alternate shot. There were some teams out there who played some pretty good golf because it was windy and gusty; it wasn’t easy,” Fowler said.
“Both of us weren’t on top of our A game, but we had a good time. It was more looking at it, we were trying to play well, but it was just fun because it’s such a different event.
He added: “We don’t get to play the format very often or tee it up with the women. It’s just fun. It’s fun to watch them play and battle it out together.”
