Elena Rybakina is turning to new means shortly before the 2024 US Open: The 25-year-old has parted ways with her Croatian coach Stefano Vukov, as she communicated on Instagram. The two had been working together since February 2019. Under him, the Kazakh quickly established herself among the best players in the world and won her only Grand Slam title to date at Wimbledon in 2022.
She did not announce who the Croatian’s successor will be. During her quarterfinal defeat at the 2024 French Open against Jasmine Paolini (2:6, 6.4, 4:6), Rybakina had a heated argument with Vukov on the court.
The upcoming US Open is her weakest major, where the 25-year-old never got further than the third round. Next Tuesday she will face Destanee Aiava (Australia) in Flushing Meadows.
Rybakina did not take part in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris due to ongoing problems with a gastrointestinal disease. She had already not competed in Indian Wells and Rome for this reason, and she had abandoned the tournament in Berlin.
At Wimbledon, Rybakina was eliminated in the semifinals at the beginning of July against the eventual winner Barbora Krejcikova (6:3, 3:6, 4:6).
