The veteran announced this was her final year on tour. How has it gone and what’s left?

In early May, Lexi Thompson made news that echoed throughout the golf community. The LPGA veteran announced that 2024 was her final season on tour. Now as the season is almost finished, Thompson has had a solid season to close out a storied career.

She currently ranks 45th for the year, which will put her in a solid position to qualify for and compete in the CME Tour Championship at the end of November. Thus far, Thompson has four top-10s for the year. Two were back-to-back with the Dow Championship and KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

The last tournament she competed in was the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship in September. She finished in a tie for 17th place. She has not competed since then due to a wrist injury.

Entering her final year, Lexi Thompson has 11 career Tour victories
In 2011, she became the youngest player to win an LPGA tournament, winning the Navistar LPGA Classic. She won her first and only major in 2014, capturing the Kraft Nabisco Championship (now Chevron Championship) by three strokes over Michelle Wie.

Thompson’s last victory on tour came in 2019 when she captured the 2019 ShopRite LPGA Classic. She is now 29 and due to injuries chose to announce her retirement.

Thompson’s highlight of the year may have been helping to lead the USA to a victory in the Solheim Cup. It marked her seventh appearance in the treasured tournament. She went one-up against European Celine Boutier helping the US secure victory.

“This is my favorite event that I’ve ever played in my career,” said Lexi Thompson about competing in the cup, “so enjoying the fans out there, signing the autographs, hearing the slow chants out there right now building up … just enjoying every step along the way.”

On the year she currently ranks in 13th place in Green Hit from Fairway Percentage at 81.82%. The veteran could be aiming for a return at The Annika driven by Gainbridge next week.

If she chooses to not compete at the Annika, LPGA Tour fans will get to see her at the CME Group Tour Championship on November 21st.
