Rome defending champion Elena Rybakina è withdrew from the women's main draw due to an illness. She will be replaced by “lucky loser” French player Oceane Dodin.
“I am disappointed to have to withdraw from Rome this year,” explained the winner of last year’s Internazionali d’Italia, “but unfortunately I don’t feel well enough to compete. I have good memories of last year and was looking forward to defending my title”.
“Rome è so special for me, and I can't wait to come back next year to claim my trophy and play in front of the Italian fans”, concluded Rybakina.
Elena Rybakina, born in Moscow on June 17, 1999, has been playing for Kazakhstan since 2018 and has won eight WTA major circuit tournaments in her career, the most important of them at Wimbledon in 2022, and also triumphed last year in the 1000s in Indian Wells and, indeed, Rome.
