Next week, Lexi Thompson will become the seventh woman to take part in a PGA Tour event with a sponsor’s invitation to the fall event in Las Vegas. Lexi Thompson couldn’t hide her happiness after everything. This, she says, can be a great motivation for young female golfers to understand the importance of working hard and not giving up at any point in their lives.
Lexi Thompson on her opportunity
In order to make the most of the opportunity that Thompson will have, she wants to use it to the fullest extent possible. Currently, she is aware of her qualities and does all she can to make good use of them at this moment.
As a professional, she aims to leave a positive impression on everyone and achieve a good result at the end of the day. “Going into the week I’m just going to embrace it all,” she continued. “Like I said, leaving a bigger impact and interacting with those kids, that’s my number one.
Of course, I want to play good golf. I know my game and how I’m playing right now and how much work I’ve been putting in, so playing within myself and my game is all I can do. Not try to force anything on a longer golf course.
I’ve never played there, so will be my first time. [I’ll] get a few practice rounds in and probably be hitting driver a lot, which is nice.” She hopes to make the cut at her first PGA Tour event and become the first woman to do so.
Michelle Wie West missed the cut by one shot. Michelle’s example will be a source of inspiration for her. “I was inspired when she did it, going after what you want, leaving a bigger message out there. If you have a goal in mind, whether it’s golf or anything in life, if you put your mind to it and have a positive attitude and work towards what you want, anything is possible.”
