Wimbledon quarter-finalist secretly quits tennis to ‘pursue career as a lingerie model’
Italian tennis star Camila Giorgi appears to have quit the sport to focus on her fashion brand and modelling career. Giorgi reached the ranking of world No.26 after reaching the quarter-finals of Wimbledon in 2018. She has won four WTA ranking titles and was playing at the Miami Open, where she was beaten in straight sets by world No.1 Iga Swiatek, on March 23. The 32-year-old has not played since then and did not apply to play at the upcoming French Open. She then shocked fans by being included on the International Tennis Integrity Agency’s list of retired players, despite not making an official announcement of her decision. Corriere della Sera has reported that the WTA has been unable to reach Giorgi or her family. The women’s tennis tour is understood to have been unaware of her retirement and strangely found that phones belonging to Giorgi, her father Sergio and her brothers Leandro and Amadeus had been disconnected. But Marca says the decision has been made so she can focus on other interests. Even while pursuing tennis, Giorgi has amassed over 732,000 followers on Instagram, where she posts modelling pictures, as well as updates from her sporting career and travels. She has her own brand called Giomila and has wowed her fans with snaps of her in sportswear and lingerie.

Giorgi still calls herself an athlete on Instagram and uploaded a selfie to her story on May 7 with a caption that did not address the speculation over her tennis career.
